- If your cat has not worn a collar before, I recommend you let them get used to wearing this on it’s own for a few days before adding the scrunchie.
- Then take the correctly fitted collar and loosen slightly to allow for the extra bulk of the scrunchie.
- The scrunchie is open at both ends so you just need to thread the collar through the scrunchie and fit the whole scrunchie onto your cats neck again with just enough space to fit two fingers underneath to make sure it’s a comfortable fit.
- When you first fit the collar your cat may tense its neck muscles so always check the fit a couple of minutes later and adjust as necessary.
Cat collars need to be firmly fitted - you should only be able to fit 1-2 fingers underneath.
It's important to keep in mind that your cat may still make occasional bird kills, particularly in the first few weeks of wearing the scrunchie while the birdlife learn to associate the bright scrunchie with the threat of your cat. Expert hunters may need to wear the Long-Haired Scrunchie (no matter what their coat lenght is to make them as visible as possible to to the birdlife - please get in touch to discuss if you have any questions or concerns about this.

Further tips to reduce hunting.
- Regular playtime with your cat will not only meet their hunting urge and use up engery but will also strengthen the bond between you and your cat. For example, chasing toys attached to a rod or catnip toys they can pretend to “kill”.
- It's best to keep your cat indoors at night, as the scrunchie will not alert the birds in the dark. Keeping your cat indoors will also stop your cat wandering far from your home.
